Product Guide
Q Cord museum stanchion system and components

39 inch Q-Cord Stanchions: The full height version works well for visitor guidance, entrances, walkways, and other areas where a traditional height barrier is preferred. 20 inch Q-Cord Stanchions: available as well.

Freestanding Base

The freestanding base is the simplest option when the barrier layout may change. No permanent floor installation is required, so the posts can be moved and rearranged as exhibits or traffic patterns change.

Slim Magnetic Base

The magnetic base provides a low profile mounting option where a suitable magnetic floor or mounting surface is available. The posts can be removed while keeping the overall installation clean and discreet.

Fixed Floor Plate

Fixed floor plates secure the stanchion directly to the floor and are well suited for permanent installations where the barrier will remain in the same location.

Removable Floor Socket

Floor sockets provide the stability and appearance of a floor mounted system while allowing the stanchion to be removed when needed. The floor opening can be covered when the post is not installed.

Retractable Cord

Standard Q Cord configurations use retractable cords that extend up to approximately 7 feet. Different cord colors are available, and custom colors can be produced for projects where the barrier needs to coordinate with the surrounding space.

Wall Connections

A Q-Cord layout does not always require a freestanding post at both ends. Wall mounted cord receptacles and terminators allow the retractable cord to connect directly to a wall or other suitable surface.

Receiver Posts

Receiver posts can be used as termination points in layouts where an additional retractable cord cassette is not required. This makes it easier to build longer runs and more complex configurations.

Signage

Q-Cord can be combined with matching signage for visitor directions, exhibit information, access instructions, or other messaging. Sign options can be incorporated without introducing a completely different visual system.

Finishes and Customization

Stainless steel provides the classic architectural Q-Cord appearance. Custom finishes, surface textures, and colors are also available for projects where the barrier needs to coordinate with the architecture, exhibit design, or interior finishes.

Replacement Parts and Accessories

Many Q-Cord components can be purchased separately, including mounting hardware, wall connections, signage components, receiver posts, and other replacement parts. This makes it possible to repair or expand an existing installation without replacing the complete system.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 20 inch and 39 inch Q-Cord stanchions?
The 20 inch version is a lower profile option that works well around exhibits, artwork, and displays where open sightlines are important. The 39 inch version is better suited for visitor guidance, walkways, entrances, and other areas where a standard barrier height is preferred.
Can Q-Cord stanchions be permanently mounted?
Yes. Q-Cord is available with several mounting options, including fixed floor plates and removable floor sockets. Freestanding and magnetic base options are also available when a permanent installation is not required.
Can the retractable cord connect directly to a wall?
Yes. Wall mounted cord receptacles and terminators can be used when a freestanding post is not needed at one end of the barrier. This is useful along walls, entrances, and other areas where floor space is limited.
Are custom finishes and colors available?
Yes. Stainless steel is a popular standard finish, but custom colors, textures, and specialty finishes are available for projects where the stanchions need to coordinate with the surrounding architecture or exhibit design.
Can Barrier HQ help determine which components we need?
Yes. Send us your floor plan, drawing, photos, or approximate dimensions and we can help identify the stanchions, bases, wall connections, cords, signage, and accessories needed for the complete setup.
