Rope Length, Measurements & Fit
Does the rope length include the hooks?
Yes. Our rope lengths include both end fittings. A 6-foot rope is the complete finished assembly, including its hooks or other selected ends.
When measuring an existing rope, lay it straight without stretching it and measure from the outer end of one fitting to the outer end of the other.
How do I choose the right length between posts?
Measure between the rope attachment points, then allow additional rope length for the hanging curve, or swag. The required length depends on the post height, spacing, and how much drape you want.
Follow the setup guidance for your stanchions. The rope should hang evenly without being pulled tight or hanging too low. If you are unsure, send us the post height, base style, distance between attachment points, and a photo of the proposed setup.
Can I order an exact custom length?
Yes, within the available length range for the selected rope. If your measurement falls between whole feet, round up to the next full-foot option. Enter the exact finished length in your order notes. If you need an exact whole-foot length, select that size directly.
Example: Need a rope that is 5 feet 3 inches long? Select the 6-foot option and write: “Finished rope length: 5 ft 3 in, including both end fittings.”
If the required length or the next full-foot option is unavailable, contact us before ordering. Custom lengths may require additional lead time.
Can a longer rope be used with any freestanding stanchion?
The maximum length a rope can be supplied in is different from the recommended length for a particular post and base. Longer ropes require a suitable supporting setup.
For its portable rope stanchions, Queue Solutions recommends rope lengths up to 8 feet with sloped or flat bases and 6 feet with dome bases. Contact us to review your post, base, or fixed mounting arrangement before choosing a longer rope.
Materials, Rope Ends & Finishes
Which ropes should I choose for outdoor use?
Choose twisted polypropylene for ongoing outdoor use. Our 1-inch and 1.5-inch polypropylene ropes use weatherproof, UV-resistant rope material.
The complete installation also needs suitable hardware. Select the Weatherizing Rope Ends upgrade and use stanchions specified for outdoor use. Tell us about any magnetic breakaway requirement so we can confirm the appropriate end configuration.
Velvet, braided rayon, and Naugahyde ropes are primarily choices for indoor venues. Weatherizing the end fittings does not change the rope material's suitability for outdoor exposure.
Is Naugahyde rope made from genuine leather?
Naugahyde is a leather-look vinyl covering. It provides the appearance and feel of leather with an easy-to-clean surface. Our 1.5-inch Naugahyde rope has a cotton core.
What is the difference between snap ends and open hooks?
- Snap ends: A spring-loaded gate closes around the stanchion's receiving loop. Use the small release lever to open the gate when attaching or removing the rope.
- Open hooks: The hook hangs directly from the receiving loop for quick removal and reconnection. An open hook can come off if it is bumped.
Available end styles and upgrades vary by rope. Choose from the options on the specific product page.
Which finishes are available, and will the ends fit my existing posts?
Standard rope-end finish choices include Polished Steel/Chrome, Satin Steel/Chrome, Polished Brass, Satin Brass, and Satin Black . Check the product page for the finishes offered with your selected end type.
For existing stanchions, confirm the receiving-loop size and the clearance needed by the rope end. Send us photos and measurements if you are unsure about fit. Finish names can also vary between suppliers, so contact us before ordering if a close visual match is important.
Do you offer magnetic breakaway rope ends?
Yes. Magnetic breakaway options are available for compatible 1-inch-diameter ropes , including our 1-inch velvet, braided, and twisted polypropylene models. Chrome and Brass options are offered on the applicable product pages.
The magnetic connection is designed to separate under pressure. Select the magnetic upgrade when ordering, or contact us to review an existing rope before purchasing a replacement fitting. For a project with specific release or installation requirements, send us those requirements for review.
Lead Times, Colors & Returns
What is the lead time for a standard rope order?
Standard 6-foot and 8-foot ropes have a lead time of 1-2 days. Custom lengths, special finishes, and other special orders may take longer.
Lead time is the time before shipment. Carrier transit time is additional. Contact us before ordering if you need delivery by a specific date.
Will the actual rope color match what I see on my screen?
Computer and mobile screens may not show colors with 100% accuracy. Display settings and lighting can affect the appearance of rope colors and metal finishes. Velvet can also look different as the light or viewing angle changes.
If an exact or close color match is important, contact us before ordering to discuss available samples or other ways to confirm the color.
Are stanchion ropes returnable?
Ropes are not returnable unless there is a manufacturer's defect. This applies to standard-length ropes as well as custom orders.
Please check the diameter, finished length, color, end style, and finish before placing your order. If you believe your rope has a manufacturing defect, contact us with your order number and clear photos so we can review the issue.
