The Q-Cord Museum Barrier with Magnetic Base combines the clean architectural appearance of the Q-Cord system with a discreet magnetic mounting system that eliminates the need for a large traditional weighted base.
Designed for museums, galleries, exhibits, historic properties, cultural institutions, and other design-sensitive environments, the magnetic base keeps the barrier visually minimal while allowing the post to be removed when needed.
Discreet Magnetic Base System
A thin magnetic floor plate is secured to the floor using an industrial-strength adhesive. The Q-Cord post then attaches to the plate through its magnetic base.
This creates a stable barrier position without the large footprint of a conventional freestanding stanchion base. When the post is removed, only the low-profile floor plate remains.
Important Installation Note:
The magnetic floor plate uses an industrial-strength adhesive. The manufacturer states that once the adhesive plate is installed, it cannot simply be repositioned. Carefully determine the final barrier layout before installing the floor plates.
7 Feet of Retractable Cord
Each Q-Cord post provides up to 7 feet of retractable cord, allowing posts to be positioned farther apart while maintaining a clean and unobtrusive visitor boundary.
The double-cord configuration includes an upper cord for pedestrian control and a lower cord positioned for improved cane detectability and ADA-conscious barrier layouts.

Q-Cord barriers are designed to define restricted areas and guide visitors without competing visually with artwork, displays, architecture, or exhibit environments.
The narrow stainless steel post, thin retractable cords, and compact magnetic base make this model particularly useful where appearance matters and large freestanding bases are undesirable.
Removable Post Design
Once the magnetic receiver plate has been installed, the post can be removed by gently rocking the magnetic base away from the plate. This allows the barrier posts to be temporarily removed while the low-profile floor plates remain installed.
The manufacturer recommends periodically checking the magnetic base for dirt, debris, damaged magnets, and proper attachment to the post.
Installation Requirements
For best adhesion, the floor surface must be properly prepared before installing the magnetic plate.
- Smooth surfaces should be cleaned with a 50:50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water.
- Porous surfaces such as wood, particleboard, or rough concrete may require sealing before installation.
- The surface should be free of dust, oil, dirt, and moisture.
- Installation should not be performed on unsuitable low-surface-energy materials without confirming compatibility.
- The adhesive should be allowed to cure for approximately 24 hours before attaching the post.
Plan the Layout Before Installation:
Position and mark all Q-Cord posts before attaching the magnetic floor plates. Because the adhesive is industrial strength, relocating an installed plate may require removal and replacement.
