The Q-Cord Museum Barrier with Surface-Mounted Fixed Base is designed for permanent or long-term installations where a clean architectural appearance and minimal floor footprint are important.
Instead of using a large weighted base, the Q-Cord post is secured directly to the floor with a compact stainless steel mounting plate. A finished stainless steel cover conceals the mounting screws after installation, creating a clean, professional appearance suitable for museums, galleries, exhibits, historic properties, cultural institutions, and other design-sensitive environments.
Permanent, Low-Profile Installation
The surface-mounted base is screw-fixed directly to the floor, providing a secure installation without the large footprint of a conventional freestanding stanchion base.
Once installed, the mounting hardware is hidden beneath the stainless steel cover plate, leaving only a compact finished base visible around the post.
Best for Permanent Installations:
This model is intended for locations where the barrier layout will remain in place. For installations where posts need to be regularly removed, consider the Q-Cord magnetic-base or floor-socket models.
7 Feet of Retractable Cord
Each Q-Cord post provides up to 7 feet of retractable cord, allowing barriers to be spaced farther apart while maintaining a clean and unobtrusive visitor boundary.
The double-cord configuration includes an upper cord for pedestrian control and a lower cord positioned for improved cane detectability and ADA-conscious barrier layouts.

Clean Concealed-Hardware Design
The mounting plate is first secured directly to the floor. After installation, the stainless steel cover plate slides down over the base and conceals the mounting screws.

Q-Cord barriers are designed to guide visitors and define restricted areas without visually dominating the space. The narrow stainless steel post and thin retractable cords make the system especially well suited for museums, galleries, exhibitions, historic interiors, and architectural environments where traditional crowd-control barriers may appear too bulky.
Installation
The Q-Cord surface-mounted base is designed to be mechanically fastened to the floor.
- Position the posts and determine the final barrier layout before drilling.
- Install the base plate onto the bottom of the post using the supplied center bolt.
- The anti-rotation pin helps maintain the correct post orientation.
- Position the cords in the desired direction before securing the plate to the floor.
- Secure the base plate using appropriate #8 screws or similar fasteners for the flooring material.
- After installation, lower the stainless steel cover plate to conceal the screws.
Important:
Floor mounting screws are not included because the correct fastener depends on the flooring material. Use appropriate hardware for wood, concrete, or other substrates. Pilot holes may be required.
Recommended Spacing
The manufacturer recommends spacing Q-Cord posts approximately 7 feet apart for typical installations.
